Pizza with George Washington Detailed Description
Go Deep (and Deep Dish!) with 4 of our Founding Americans
Middle School + High School Assembly Program Description
- What if teens heard surprising stories about leaders from another changeable and inspiring era?
- Could they learn about key choices that created this country? You bet.
- Would it be possible for teens to see connections between these Founding Americans and their own lives? Absolutely.
- Could these Founding Americans serve as true allies to this new generation of leaders? Definitely.
In Pizza with George Washington, Christina Frei tells rich stories about 4 Founding Americans. Through each meaningful and timely tale, all students will spend time with these Founding Americans, digging into their humanity and understanding why America truly is a unique and exciting place to live. Beyond the scope of their daily lives, students will see the power of Founding Fathers’ wisdom in a world with many governments in transition.
Your students will view the Founding Americans very differently.
Christina Frei also makes these stories relevant to teens. How? Interspersed throughout the stories are little vignettes from students’ everyday lives. These are directly tied back to the Founding Americans.
The Structure:
- Six Student volunteers perform a simple, straightforward comedy-improv game. This captures a day in the life of “Kayla,” our sample student. Christina Frei coaches the process.
- Christina Frei then recounts a surprising story about a Founding American, interacting frequently with the students with questions.
- Then it’s time for the students to tie the two stories together. How could this Founding American help our friend Kayla? What advice would he give her?
- Repeat 3 more times with the other Founding Americans.
Post program: Since this is an information-rich program, there are review quiz handouts made available to your school, along with resource lists filled with books, videos, even YouTube video suggestions. Students are also invited to www.pizzawithgeorgewashington.com to find out which Founding American they most resemble. This is connected to social media, so they can share their results.
